I'd stared at my phone, torn between obligation and the gnawing need to stay close to Lynn—to make sure Charles didn't do something that would force me to reveal exactly what I was capable of. But Katie rarely asked for help, and refusing would raise questions I wasn't prepared to answer.
The boutique was all glass and expensive lighting. Katie flitted between displays while I provided halfhearted opinions, my mind three miles away.
