EDEN POV White cribs lined the walls. Seven of them. Seven babies wrapped in pale blankets, some asleep, some fussing weakly, one crying so softly it sounded like it had already learned nobody came when it screamed. A sound broken and murderous left Keres and I could feel Samael trashing beneath the surface. Aiden sucked in a breath like someone had punched through his ribs. Thane stepped into the room first. Slow. Careful. As if the floor might crack beneath the weight of what we were seeing. “f**k,” Keres whispered. One of the babies turned its tiny face toward us and opened its mouth. And the cutest sound I’d ever heard came out of him. Aiden turned sharply toward the women behind us. His voice was gentle, but something in it shook. “Did any of you give birth here?” Silence.
