The facility had started screaming before we reached the second staircase.
Alarms rolled through the walls in heavy red pulses, making the lights flash and the floor vibrate beneath our boots like the whole place had a heartbeat.
A heartbeat I was going to end.
After freeing Thane and hearing what he was feeling through the bond, we couldn’t wait anymore.
We couldn’t avoid every camera.
Couldn’t check every corner.
Couldn’t waste time being careful while Perse was somewhere in this hell, bleeding and hurting and fading through a bond I couldn’t even feel.
Thane was silent, only speaking to guide us, and each time his voice came through the link it sounded more strained.
