PENNY POV
The man sobbed, but he did it. Palm first, then eye. His whole body trembled so violently the scanner failed twice before Marcellus sighed and pinned his head in place with a shadow wrapped around his jaw.
The panel blinked green.
The door unlocked.
The man screamed.
Black veins under the skin. Shadow peeling away. Mouth forced open. Death crawling home.
He dropped at our feet less than ten seconds later.
This time I didn’t even move a muscle. I didn’t feel anything. Didn’t f*****g care about anything.
The woman made a small broken sound. She knew she was the next one.
Marcellus studied the body, then the open door.
“Well,” he said again, softer this time, “at least they are consistent.”
Daddy looked at him.
Marcellus lifted one hand. “Not the moment. Understood.”
