We lie facing opposite directions, our heads touching.
For a while, neither of us says anything.
Then Wendy sighs, rolls onto her stomach and reaches over to push a strand of hair away from my face.
“So how are things going to be between you two moving forward?” she asks.
I stare at the ceiling. It’s a question I’ve already asked myself a hundred times.
“I don’t know,” I admit. “He seems okay with our previous arrangements. Besides,” I continue, forcing a shrug, “it’s Edward. He probably has a million girls interested in him at any given moment so this isn’t exactly some life-changing event for him. If he’s fine, then I’ll be fine too, I’ll get used to it eventually.”
The silence that follows feels suspiciously judgmental.
