LAYLA’S POV I stagger back. “Kaz!” Wendy lunges forward and Johnny barely gets his arm out in time to stop her from colliding with them. “Let me through…Kaz, Kaz look at me—” “Move back, Wendy—” Johnny strains against her. “That’s my mate—” “I know, just—” “KAZ!” The way she screams his name is not something I’ll ever forget. Johnny kicks the long couch backward with his foot, clearing space, and they lower Kaz to the floor. He goes down heavy, the sight making my stomach turn over. Still, I haven’t moved. I’m standing where I was and I can’t move. The blood is everywhere on the floor, on Edward’s hands, soaking through the floorboards in a spreading dark pool and my brain has stopped processing in any useful way. It’s just feeding me images.
