LAYLA’S POV I don’t even know how long I’ve been sitting alone in this quad. What I do know is that I’ve watched the same group of people come out of the library twice, which means they left, went somewhere and came back while I’ve been sitting here doing nothing. I haven’t really done much of anything since leaving that restaurant, actually. I somehow ended up here, found an empty bench and sat down, and everything after that has mostly been me staring into space while my brain keeps replaying the worst conversation of my life. There’s a part of me that wishes I never woke up this morning. I could’ve slept through my alarm, missed my test and dealt with it later. Then I wouldn’t have gotten into Alpha Strout’s car, wouldn’t have sat across from him while he took everything I knew about
