Daniel didn’t sleep at all. The room smelled of swamp, mostly thanks to the young boy who was curled up on the floor, and all night long Daniel was imagining the gory scene that had to play out the following day. He fell asleep a couple of hours before daybreak and woke up with a pounding headache at dawn. He left Geroge snoring softly on the bed and woke up the boy. They went down to the lake shore, shivering in the damp cold.
