Tess wasn’t sure which was worse. The actual surgery to remove the arm, or the recovery afterwards. For days her world was a blur of unbearable pain and raging fevers. She only had enough of the prescription pain medicine to last a few days, and even so, it did very little to dull the incessant fire in the stump that remained. Sometimes, she even felt as if the arm was still there, tingling and throbbing, even itching sometimes. She would reach for it, just to have her good hand grasp at empty air.
