Jessica/ Tessa’s pov;
The words sent my heart doing a double take and before I could muster a response, the ground shuddered.
Not violently, just enough to rattle the tools hanging on the walls.
“What’s going on?” The blacksmith stood up, abandoning what he was doing, his eyes on us.
I furrowed my brows, having no answer for him, but what I did know was that whatever this was, it wasn’t something to just be overlooked, it was bad.
“I’ll go check it out,” Adrian said. “You stay here,” he said to me and I shook my head, about to refuse.
It was at that point that I heard the scream. High and panicked.
The sky outside darkened in an instant, smoke rolling overhead as though it was a living thing. Heat surged through the air.
“Fire!” someone from afar shouted.
