Right before my eyes, Ana threw herself in front of me. Her body hit the ground before I even understood what happened. The rogue’s jaws clamped down on her shoulder, tearing through flesh, and blood splattered across my face. For a second, the world stopped moving. My brain couldn’t catch up.
She… she took the hit for me.
Everything around me blurred. The battle faded into distant noise. The screams, the growls, the clash of weapons, it all disappeared. All I could see was Ana’s body shaking as the rogue ripped into her.
“Tessa!” someone shouted, but it sounded far away, like an echo from underwater.
