Zane’s POV
I left Jessica on the bed, kissed her forehead, and forced myself to step away before I lost control again. She needed rest after everything from last night. I needed to keep my head clear. I inhaled sharply and left the room, closing the door behind me.
The moment I stepped into my office, Ronald arrived.
“We will lead the guards to the border together,” I said immediately. “I don’t trust the others to do a good job.”
Ronald nodded. “After today, I don’t trust anyone fully either.”
“Since the chief guard turned out to be a betrayal,” I continued, pacing once, “I’m sure they still have someone in our midst.”
