Jessica/Tessa’s Pov;
The sincerity in his voice was confusing. It felt too real, but this was Adrian!
I took a step forward and just then, there was a faint vibration on the ground which grew louder. The light in the mine flickered. The guards tensed behind me.
Adrian’s expression shifted, but it was gone as soon as I noticed.
Something in the mine was reacting and I furrowed my brows, not understanding what it was.
Was it the old totem he’d been stroking like a talisman?
I opened my mouth to speak and the top of the cave shook. My heart lurched forward but I tried to remain calm, wanting to ensure that the guards behind me stayed calm as well.
Adrian’s eyes lit and then he glanced at me, giving me the same look of guilt that he had before.
