“I’d rather die than leave Zane and become your mate.”
Her words cut through the air like a blade, sharp and cold. For a moment, I just stared at her. Then, slowly, a smile tugged at my lips. She was so fierce, so stubborn, it was almost charming.
“Delusional,” she added, her tone full of disgust.
I chuckled under my breath. “Delusional? Perhaps. But at least I’m honest about what I want.”
Her glare was enough to make most men crumble, but I wasn’t most men. I only saw the faint flicker of conflict in her eyes. That tiny hint of hesitation she didn’t even realize was there. It amused me more than it should have.
