Holden leaned down until his face was right in front of mine.
"I want your first kiss," he said in a low voice. "You were the first person to ever beat me. I want a first from you."
I smiled sweetly and Holden's smirk deepened. He thinks he's won. Silly boy is about to get real upset real fast.
"Wow, cute," I replied. "But unfortunately for you, Eric Brown took my first kiss last summer."
Holden's face instantly fell into a frown, making me feel even better.
"Sorry 'bout your luck," I said as I slipped past him towards the door. "See ya at the fair."
I giggled as I opened the door, walking through as Holden spoke.
"Keep laughing, Andrews!" He called out after me. "I'll get a first from you one day! And I'm killing Eric Brown!"
Back then, I thought Holden was just being a dumb boy.
