Mason POV
It feels like forever sitting in that cramped space until distant shouts echo outside.
My senses heighten and my hand goes to the gun, fingers tight on the grip. Adrenaline spikes, heart racing. I creep to the door, peering through a crack. The path outside is empty with overgrown weeds swaying in the breeze.
There's no sign of Leon yet.
Memories flood again, our engagement party, Hera's smile that lit up the night. I was supposed to protect her, build a life with her and our daughter and now?
Everything is shattered. I don't even know if she is safe and alive. Anger surges inside me and I curse inwardly.
I don't know who intended to harm us but whoever he is – they'll pay. I'll make sure of it. But first, I have to get out of here and find my old lady.
