Viya's POV
I peered toward the exit after Adrian stormed off, finally allowing myself to collapse against the wall and release the breath I'd been holding. As the tension drained from my body, I noticed my palms were bleeding where my nails had dug in.
Every encounter with Adrian brought those humiliating memories flooding back like nightmares. The fear was almost impossible to control. Serena, my wolf, stirred restlessly within me, her protective instincts raging against the threat we'd just faced.
"We're okay," I whispered to her. "He can't hurt us anymore."
I gave myself a few minutes to recover, though by then the cold had seeped through my dress. After straightening my already-neat cocktail dress, I headed back inside. I hadn't forgotten why I was here today.
