I found it almost laughable that Miranda thought I'd care about her presence at the research facility. I could easily guess her game—she'd probably try to provoke me by mentioning Lucius, claiming he was the one who arranged her position.
After all, not many people in New York had that kind of influence.
But I was well past feeling hurt by anything related to Lucius.
"I'm not interested," I said without even looking back.
I walked into the elevator, and just as the doors were about to close, Robert from the herbal medicine team squeezed through, his face bright with admiration.
"Dr. Lockwood, that was amazing!" he exclaimed.
I responded evenly, "People who focus on their research are always impressive."
It all depends on where your priorities lie.
