I rubbed my cheek which was now stinging in pain, “Did you just hit me?”
“Babe, I’m sorry. I didn't mean to.. Jess!” He was quick to apologise, but I rushed to the bathroom.
He was banging at the door, "Jess, please open; I’m sorry, okay.” He begged. I was breathing heavily by the door; I could still feel the pain on my cheek. I walked to the mirror and examined my cheek, it was red. I didn’t realise I was crying until tears rolled on my cheeks.
I quickly wiped them off. I was not going to cry over this—sure, it was painful but I've gone through something much more painful than this.
