A sudden pulse tore through the ground beneath my feet—a thunderous bang, like a sonic boom smashing through the silence. It slammed into my chest, setting every nerve on fire and turning my blood to ice all at once. My heart slammed against my ribs like it wanted out.
Something had just exploded.
Instinct took over before my mind could catch up. I tore off at a sprint, Rett’s boots pounding the stone behind me, his breath sharp and urgent in my ear.
“Pauline,” I barked, pushing every muscle to move faster. “They’ve found her”
The dungeons were a maze of shadow and cold stone, the stench thick and suffocating. I ran past cells and dead ends, adrenaline fueling my legs even as panic clenched my gut.
