“Hunter?” I called, stepping closer. His head snapped up, his jaw tight. “He’s alive,” he said curtly, his voice clipped, but I caught the waver in his tone. His usually calm and composed demeanor was cracked, his eyes flickering between his father and the doctor. “He’ll pull through,” I said, though I wasn’t sure if I was trying to reassure him or myself. Hunter didn’t respond immediately. When he finally spoke, his voice was low, almost a growl. “If someone did this to him…” He trailed off, his fists clenching. “We’ll find out,” I said firmly. “But right now, we need to make sure the pack is secure.” “Go check the safety room,” Alan ordered. “Jennifer and the others—the females and pups—they must still be locked inside. Make sure they’re safe and get them out if the area’s clear.”
