I knew this was a terrible fu.cking idea the moment the wind shifted and something ancient flew above us.
It wasn’t a bird.

It was a goddamn dragon.

I’d seen pictures. I’d heard stories. But nothing—nothing—prepared me for the real thing. His wingspan blacked out half the damn sky. His scales shimmered with this deadly, regal kind of beauty that screamed, I could kill you and no one would find the body. When he circled above, every muscle in my body went deathly still. Even Kane, who never shut the hell up, just growled low and cautious.
“Maybe coming here just the two of us wasn’t that smart,” I muttered under my breath.
