Ava POV The party was fun, but eventually it had to end. We helped clean up before saying our goodbyes. Ma packed up some of her salsa for me to take home. I was way too excited about that. Then I had to say goodbye to Rojo. The poor dog actually whined when I started walking away. I crouched down and rubbed both sides of his face. “I'll be back soon. Promise.” Yes. I made a promise to a dog. He's family. So, suck it. By the time we left, everyone decided the night wasn't quite over yet. Which apparently meant going back to the clubhouse for more drinking. Because clearly, none of us had consumed enough alcohol already. When we pulled into the compound, I found myself looking around. It was strange. I'd just left a house where I'd never once questioned whether I belonged.
