Ava's POV
Ma and Mom finally came back outside carrying more food.
Dad followed behind them with two trays and a look on his face that told me he'd somehow gotten volunteered.
I smiled.
That looked about right.
“Finally!” Xavier shouted.
“Where's the guac?”
Ma's eyes narrowed.
“You ate the first bowl.”
“I shared.”
“You shared shit.”
I laughed.
Xavier pointed at her.
“See? This is why Ava has a mouth. She learned it from you.”
“Keep talking, mijo.”
Xavier suddenly became very interested in his beer.
I snorted.
Blaze leaned toward me.
“Pussy.”
Xavier flipped him off.
The food got set down, and everyone started moving toward the tables again.
I grabbed a chip and dipped it into Ma's salsa.
Took a bite.
And that's when the idea hit me.
It was stupid.
Really stupid.
