Nobody moved.
Pike's face told me he knew he'd f****d up.
Blaze stood between him and the door.
Train had gone completely still beside me.
Domingo stared at Mendoza.
I kept my eyes on Pike.
“What do you know about my daughter?”
Pike swallowed.
“Nothing.”
“Wrong f*****g answer.”
“I heard about her. That's it.”
“From who?”
His eyes flicked toward Mendoza.
There it was.
Domingo turned.
“Mendoza.”
“It was years ago.”
“What was?”
“I heard stories.”
“What stories?”
Mendoza glanced at me.
“About Emilio.”
My jaw locked.
Of course.
Ava had saved Domingo's nephew years ago.
Pike spoke.
“He said some nurse saved him.”
Blaze's voice came low behind him.
“Her name didn't need to come with the story.”
One of the patrons looked over.
Train caught it.
