Dawn's POV — Monday Afternoon
By the time I pulled into Evan's school parking lot, I was ready for a quiet afternoon.
After the morning we'd had with Maddox and his babysitter.
I figured we'd experienced enough excitement for one Monday.
Apparently, the universe disagreed.
But I didn't know that yet.
Evan climbed into the SUV and tossed his backpack onto the floor.
"Hey, Mom."
"Hello, my favorite teenage son."
"I'm your only teenage son."
"Which makes the competition incredibly easy."
He rolled his eyes.
"How was school?" I asked.
"Fine."
"Anything exciting?"
"Nope."
"Learn anything?"
"Yeah."
I glanced at him.
"Care to elaborate?"
"Mom."
"Evan."
He sighed.
"We had a math test."
"See? Was that so difficult?"
He shook his head.
Thirteen.
