(Caroline's POV)
Once back in my room, I grab my phone and call Jason.
He answers on the second ring. "Caroline? What's wrong?"
"I need to meet you. Now."
A pause. "Are you okay?"
"No." My voice breaks. "No, I'm not okay. But I will be. Just—please. I need to see you."
"I'll be in my office. Come straight up."
Jason's office door closes behind me with a soft click.
He's already moving toward me, hands reaching, face creased with concern. "What happened?"
I don't let him touch me yet. If he touches me, I'll break. And I can't break right now.
I need to think. Plan. Act.
"I heard Helen on the phone," I say. My voice sounds strange. Too calm. Like it's coming from someone else.
Jason goes very still. "What did you hear?"
I pull out my phone. Play the audio.
