(Caroline's POV) I watch Samuel drive away from the window. Charlie comes to stand beside me. "He's different," he says. I look down at him. "Does that change things?" Charlie thinks about it with his usual careful precision. "It changes one thing." He holds up one finger. "He isn't bad in the head anymore." I almost smile. Almost. Because Charlie is right. Samuel isn't stupid anymore. He's finally using his brain. He studied. He learned. He passed Charlie's test. But that doesn't change what he did. Or what he's trying to do now.
