I woke already tired and didn’t open my eyes. I couldn’t imagine what would motivate me to get out of bed. As angry and sad as I’d been feeling, I’d never been this hopeless.
But I couldn’t see a way out. I wasn’t going to get to start over and raise the pup on my own. I’d just have to live in this limbo state, watching Hunter and Maya together. I’d just have to hope he’d let me raise the pup, and not take it away and let Maya act as its mother.
The thought was enough to spur me to sit straight up in bed.
