Eve
I saw the exact moment his face changed.
The softness in his eyes vanished, replaced by something hard and guarded. His jaw tightened, lips pressing into a thin line. He looked away from me like he couldn’t bear the weight of my stare.
But I couldn’t stop now.
“You promised me,” I said softly, my voice trembling just enough to betray how fragile I felt.
“Eve…” He tried, the word barely audible, like it hurt to say my name.
“You promised me!” I yelled, the sound tearing out of my throat raw and broken. My voice shook so badly I barely recognized it. “You said you’d say yes. You said whatever I needed, you’d grant it. You promised!”
He exhaled sharply, shoulders slumping. “I can’t.”
The words landed like a slap.
“What?” My heart stuttered. “Why?”
“I just can’t,” he said, quiete
