Austin dropped the kids off at school and went straight to work.
Kaius wasn't in when she got there, but she didn't think much of it.
She had barely sat down at her desk when Benjamin appeared at the door.
"Austin? Sofia Walton is here to see you. She's... pretty insistent."
Austin 's lips curled into a cold smile. She'd been expecting this.
With Pioneer Investments suddenly pulling out and demanding their five hundred million back, the Waltons were scrambling.
"Send her in,"Austin said, straightening the papers on her desk like she had all the time in the world.
Sofia walked in, her usual graceful stride now stiff and uneven.
Even under heavy makeup, she looked awful. Her skin was pale, her eyes sunken and ringed with dark circles.
