"Eloise, why are you crying?" Ainsley sat up and reached out to hug her. Eloise subconsciously pushed him away. Realizing her reaction, she quickly explained, "I had a nightmare." Ainsley sighed in relief and said, "Don’t be afraid. I’m here." He pulled the blanket over her and held her close. She fell asleep again in his arms. Maybe it was exhaustion, or pain. But for the first time in days, she slept beside Ainsley. Ainsley’s deep gaze flicked to the fruit knife in the corner. He stared at it for a long time, then looked down.
