Someone is calling my name. Not Locke, though. It’s a woman, and her voice is firm, calm and close. Definitely not Willow’s airy-fairy, musical tone. “Zara, open your eyes for me.” I try, but my eyelids feel glued together. There’s a siren somewhere above me, or maybe around me. The sound rises and falls until it seems to vibrate through my bones. “Zara?” I force my eyes open. White ceiling. Bright lights. A face leaning over me. Blue uniform. My heart kicks hard. “Where am I?” “You’re in an ambulance.” Her voice stays calm and measured. “My name’s Leah, and this is Tom. You fainted at home.” I turn my head slightly, wincing a bit.
