I rushed into class, almost stumbling as I entered, breathing like I’d just run a marathon. My dress clung to my skin, my hair? A total mess. I could feel the sweat dripping down my back.
The moment I stepped in, silence hit the room like a slap.
“Miss Voss…” The teacher's voice rang out, cold and sharp. She narrowed her eyes at me, then glanced down at her wristwatch. “Nice of you to join us.”
I swallowed hard, trying to catch my breath. “I’m sorry, ma’am. It won’t happen again—”
She cut me off before I could finish. “Of course it won’t. Because in this school, we do not tolerate misbehavior. And this will be the last time you enter my class late. If it happens again, I’ll report you. Understood?”
I nodded quickly. “Yes, ma’am. I understand—”
“Take a seat,” she ordered, a
