The thunderstorm rolled in after dinner, loud and angry. Rain hammered the windows like it wanted to break in. Lightning flashed across the sky, lighting up the dark living room every few seconds. Abigail and Suzy had been watching a movie on the couch, but the power cut out suddenly, plunging the whole house into blackness. “s**t,” Suzy muttered, laughing a little. “Guess that’s it for the night.” Abigail felt a shiver run through her, but it wasn’t just from the cold. “I’ll get some candles.” They moved around in the dark, bumping into each other on purpose now. Suzy found the matches and soon soft golden light flickered from three big candles on the coffee table.
