Amber. “Put on your clothes,” Zeden said as he stretched out on the bed next to me, his tone flat and distant, like the intimacy we’d just shared had vanished in an instant. I hadn’t even caught my breath yet, my chest still heaving from what we’d done, and between my thighs, his release trickled warm and sticky, a reminder of how completely he’d taken me. Every muscle felt heavy and spent, but his words landed like a sudden chill. “I thought I’d stay the night,” I murmured, propping myself up on an elbow. “Leave in the morning like usual.” “You know I hate it when you push back,” he replied, sitting up sharply and swinging his legs over the side. “Just listen—get up and go to the maids’ quarters.” He rose then, walking over to one of the drawers in his study area without looking back.
