Kane’s POV My head whips in the direction of the smoke, my eyes already searching wildly despite not being able to see anything. Without another moment of hesitation, I run into the wreckage. “Kane!” Henri shouts, but I’m already gone. I move through the smoke, thankful that some of it is clearing so I’m able to see more than two feet in front of me. I don’t know what I’m doing. I should be looking for the rogue wolves, ensuring that others are safe. Yet I’m here, searching for Evelyn. Something deep in my bones tells me that I wouldn’t be able to drag myself anywhere else even if I wanted to.  Small fires burn wooden benches, bushes, trees, and the town square gazebo.
