I woke up before Ryan that morning.
For a few seconds, I lay still and stared at the ceiling. Then I remembered why I had stopped going to the gym.

I pushed the thought away and got out of bed.
Marcus had sent me a workout routine. I had saved it on my phone, but I still hadn’t replied to his message.
I didn’t want to encourage anything.
Not now.
I changed into my workout clothes and went downstairs. The living room was quiet, so I cleared a small space near the couch and placed my phone on the table.
The first exercise looked easy.
It wasn’t.
I followed Marcus’s instructions carefully, counting each movement under my breath. My legs started burning after a few minutes.
I almost stopped.
Then I remembered what I had told myself.
I was doing this for me.
