A few minutes later, Liam’s phone rang. The sound cut through the room like a blade. Sharp. Final. My heart jumped so hard it hurt, my breath stuttering in my chest as Liam slowly reached into his pocket. He didn’t rush. He looked at the screen, then at me, and the corner of his mouth lifted into a smirk that made my stomach turn. He answered the call and deliberately put it on loudspeaker. “Don’t hurt her, you have an issue with me not her!” Zander’s voice came through the phone—cold, controlled, but wrapped tight with something darker beneath it.
