I was putting Xavier to sleep when a servant informed me of Elder James and Evelyn’s arrival.
I brushed Xavier’s curls off his forehead. “We have guests, little man. No more sleep for you.”
I stepped out into the hallway. Liam was already waiting. I’d told him about the call, and though he didn’t particularly agree with letting them visit, there was nothing he could do about it now.
Our eyes met briefly.
He gave me a nod, saying, Let’s get this over with as soon as possible.
We descended the stairs together.
When Evelyn and Elder James saw us, they sprang to their feet.
