Hailey’s POV “Are you still mad Roy couldn’t come with us?” Ryan’s voice was soft, almost careful, as he glanced at me from the driver’s seat. The car hummed steadily along the quiet road, trees blurring past the window. I shook my head, staring straight ahead. “No,” I said quickly. “Why would I be mad about that? I’m not mad. I’m fine.” Ryan smiled, slow and knowing. “You’re biting your nails.” I stopped mid-motion and dropped my hand to my lap. “I am not.” “You always do when you’re upset,” he said. “It’s kind of cute.” I scoffed and leaned back in my seat. “Don’t start.
