Hailey’s POV The ride to the hospital felt unreal, as if I were trapped inside a nightmare I could not wake from. Roy drove too fast, his hands gripping the steering wheel with a desperation that made his knuckles turn white. He kept glancing at me like he was terrified I would disappear if he looked away for even a second. “Hailey, please,” he said, his voice breaking. “Please hold on.
