Chapter 168: The Woman I Chose to Become

1384 Words

Hailey’s POV Roy looked like he wanted to tear the world apart. He stood outside the restaurant, shoulders tense, eyes bloodshot, jaw clenched so hard I thought his teeth would crack. For a second, I almost felt something, but then the memory of the hospital returned like a knife. The cold gel on my stomach, the doctor’s soft voice, and Violet’s message replayed in my mind, and whatever pity I had left disappeared. Roy took a step toward me, his gaze fixed on Luca’s arm around my waist as if it was a blade pressed to his throat. “Move your hand,” Roy said to Luca, his voice dangerously low. Luca didn’t even blink. Instead, he tightened his hold slightly, pulling me closer in a way that was both protective and deliberately provocative. “No,” Luca replied calmly. “I don’t think I will.”
