My mind is racing so fast that I can barely cling to a single thought before ten more shove it out of the way. It’s all too loud, too complicated.

Things have never been good between my stepmother and I, but I never dreamed that it would escalate to this point. She could’ve had me executed by my own father’s hand if her plan would’ve worked.
I think the typical response to having unrightful charges dismissed is celebration or relief, but I feel neither of those. I know it’s not over.
Which is why I’m so grateful for Ember. I still can’t believe she came back at the perfect moment, almost like she knew I was in trouble too even if she said that she’d just been worried for her friend and her friend’s dad.
