Relief crashes through me so intense my knees nearly buckle.
Ethan catches my arm. Steadies me. His touch is gentle. Careful.
"Easy," he murmurs. "You're safe now."
Safe.
The word feels impossible.
But standing here—fifty feet above the ground, beside this impossible man—
Maybe it's true.
Below, Lucian's face is white. Then red. Purple veins bulging at his temples.
His whole body trembles with rage.
"YOU!" The word is a roar that echoes across the square. "How DARE you—"
"Dare?" Ethan's voice is light. Amused. "I dare quite a lot, actually."
"She's MINE!" Lucian's scream is inhuman. Raw. His hands claw at the air. "My woman! My property! You have NO RIGHT to touch her!"
His voice cracks on the last word. Almost a shriek.
"Your property?" Ethan repeats thoughtfully
