LAURA’S POV Elijah put down the article, his brows close to each other. I could feel the anger he felt when he read the article. “We shall handle that, don't let it bother you. It's my company.” I said “No, anyone who messes with you. Has to be dealt with.” He pulled me in for a hug, his scent lingering on me. I was caught in his warm embrace like a moth to a flame. I wasn’t sure when his lips found mine again. Maybe it was somewhere between the moment Elijah promised he couldn’t lose me and the second my anger folded under the weight of longing. His mouth was desperate—starved—and I matched it with a hunger I hadn’t allowed myself to feel in weeks. Clothes vanished like paper in a fire.
