By ten the next morning, the shop looked almost exactly the same as it had before Razor decided to prove he could get close to us.
I wanted to keep it that way.
I stood behind reception with Nixx, Benny, Jarek, Stitch, and the security installer while he held up a small black panic button barely bigger than two stacked quarters. If I approved it, one would go beneath reception and another beneath my station. Either button would silently alert the clubhouse and trigger an emergency notification through the security company without setting off a siren or turning my shop into a place where every client immediately knew something was wrong.
I touched the underside of the counter where my right hand naturally rested. “Here. I don’t want to have to reach backward for it.”
