I let the moment pass.
JJ looked down at the folder.
“What else?”
“There’s another issue we need to decide.”
Her expression closed almost immediately.
“We?”
I deserved that.
“Jarek offered us another location. It’s closer to Dagger territory and easier to secure if Hell’s Fire starts widening the search.”
“So when are you moving me?”
The question landed harder than it should have because she clearly expected there to already be a decision.
“I’m not.”
She blinked.
“You can stay here, or you can move there. If you stay here and you don’t want me in the house, I’ll sleep somewhere else.”
For several seconds she just stared at me.
“You’re asking?”
“I’m trying to.”
Benny made a suspicious choking sound from the kitchen.
I ignored him.
JJ didn’t.
“Is he dying?”
“Hopefully.”
