“A monster you chose,” Nixx replied, pulling him close for a kiss.
We took our tea upstairs rather than covering the kitchen table with wedding plans. I sat between them while Benny asked whether I wanted to tell the club immediately. The thought of Jarek hearing the news secondhand amused me, but I wasn’t ready for a roomful of congratulations. I wanted the engagement to belong to us for a little while.
“Tomorrow,” I said. “Millie first. Then everybody else.”
“And you’re still opening the shop tomorrow?” Benny asked.
“Of course. I’m not disappearing into wedding planning when Stitch and I just started talking about the third station.”
“He’ll lose his mind if you abandon the calendar,” Nixx said.
“He’ll lose his mind regardless,” Benny replied. “It’s one of his hobbies.”
