By morning, Jarek, Marcus, and Smitty had been searching for Havoc since before sunrise, and every time Nixx checked his phone, his expression told me the update was another version of the same thing.
They knew Havoc had come south. They knew he was close. They had absolutely no idea where he had disappeared to.
Nixx found me putting away breakfast dishes and leaned against the kitchen counter with the look he wore when he had been thinking too hard about something.
“I want to talk to you about Millie going back to school.”
I set the bowl I was drying on the counter and turned toward him. “Okay.”
“I know you were planning to enroll her once the protection order came through because you want her to have something normal again, and I get that.”
